“Lake Minnewanka”

May 21, 2025

When I started working with these melodies, 3 things immediately came to mind:

1. I would stack and layer them.
2. The mood would be statuesque and dignified.
3. I would use the organ sound.

As my process evolved, I remembered a recent trip to Banff, and the majestic mountains I saw around Lake Minnewanka. The scenery was highly dramatic, with layers of sedimentary rock and jagged tooth-like mountain formations. I tried to imitate that image with the melodies by layering them for dramatic affect, but in the end, I found myself settling into the unyielding presence of those mountains, and the music changed.

Sometimes you end up in a place completely different than where you started.

*As per usual - big screen and headphones are recommended.
